Contemporary Mantra Music and Meditation with Jo Kelly

Jo Kelly, whose repertoire includes vocals, piano, harmonium, and esraj (Indian cello), composes, records and performs contemporary conscious songs and traditional sacred music, blending acoustic instruments with electronic beats and soundscapes.

Originally from Sydney she enjoyed a varied music career singing jazz, cabaret, pop and dance covers, but her true musical heart was untouched until she traveled to India in 2007 where she discovered exotic instruments and classical ragas that touched her heart and soul and felt the spirit of mother earth, rich and rhythmic, inspire her true voice.

Since 2007, an abundance of songs and melodies sprang forth and she released her debut original album ‘Letting Love In‘ and eventually 5 other titles in her ‘Café Mantra’ series.

Jo formally studied Ayurveda with Dr. Ajit Singh (BAMS PCAS) and was initiated in the mantras of the Das Mahavidyas (The Ten Wisdom Goddesses) by Sri Param Eswaran. Today, Jo continues to study, practice and perform, experiencing the positive effects of mantra chanting and meditation. She has begun to learn classical Indian singing and musicianship and this continually inspires her music and each CD she creates.

Friday 29th April 2016
17.30 - 18.30 at Yantra Hall

Chanting mantras is one of the easiest and most joyful ways to meditate. A mantra is a sound, syllable or word that is sung (chanted) in repetition to focus and train your mind away from worried, confused and excessive thinking. Excessive thinking is tiring and creates toxins and blockages in your energetic channels making you stressed. Chanting burns up these toxins, cleansing away stress and emotions in an easy peaceful way. It's like washing the body and mind from the inside out. You can listen to chanting or use your own voice. Both are effective ways in finding peace of mind.
