Shanti Shivani & Friends Live at Yantra Hall
20.00 on Thursday 26th November 2015
Shanti Shivani is a singer, nada yogini, sound healer, internationally acclaimed seminar leader and recording artist. Since 1981, Shanti has been the disciple of the esteemed Dagar family, masters of Dhrupad, the most ancient style of Hindustani Classical Music.
In this performance, Shanti will sing a North Indian classical raga (musical mode) in a Dhrupad style to set up a sacred space which allows listeners to let go of the chattering mind and rest in the heart where they can experience Oneness with the Divine. Dhrupad was originally only sung or played on the rudra veena by Hindu Swamis. It invokes a specific aspect of the Divine by tapping into the rasa (essence, flavor) of the raga to cultivate compassion or a sense of inner peace. There is a performance element to this event, but the real purpose is to experience the depth of silence and inner space, and the power of sound, mantras, and Living Word/Living Light as it flows through you.
Shanti Shivani's exquisite voice transmits a purity, clarity and depth of feeling that is rare. When she sings, it is as though the great Goddess herself is speaking directly to you, filling you with her warmth, light and divine grace. - Sharron Rose, dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, author of the "Path of the Priestess"
